History:
Between 1744 and 1746 the church was rebuilt a mile and a half north west of the the ancient church which was demolished as it stood near the west wing of Mereworth House built on the site of Mereworth Castle and upset the symmetry of the house. Coffins and memorials were moved to the new church.
